Toward understanding topographically specific branching of retinal axons in their target area, we have studied the interaction between neurotrophin receptors and members of the Eph family. TrkB and its ligand BDNF are uniformly expressed in the retina and tectum, respectively, and exert a branch-promoting activity, whereas EphAs and ephrinAs are expressed in gradients in retina and tectum and can mediate a suppression of axonal branching. branching. The ephrinA/Trk interaction is neurotrophin induced and specifically augments the PI-3 kinase/Akt pathway generally known to be involved in the promotion of branching. In addition, ephrinAs/TrkB modulate axon branching and also synapse formation of hippocampal neurons. [...]

Ethical considerations in on-ground applications of the ecosystem services concept / Luck, Gary W. (Institute for Land, Water and Society) ; Chan, Kai M. A. (Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability) ; Eser, Uta (Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Umwelt Nürtingen-Geislingen. The ecosystem services (ES) concept is one of the main avenues for conveying society's dependence on natural ecosystems. On-ground applications of the concept are now widespread and diverse and include its use as a communication tool, for policy guidance and priority setting, and for designing economic instruments for conservation.
Before studying legal translation, most translation students are not familiar with law or legal terminology even in their own language and culture. Moreover, they feel both an enormousrespect and a bit of fear concerning the subject. [...]
