The Carandell Economics Library was inaugurated at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in February 1981. Its collection was transferred to UAB by an agreement signed on the 28th September 1979 by the Associació Industrial Tèxtil del Procés Cotoner (AITPA), which owned it, and with the special collaboration of the Caixa de Pensions per a la Vellesa i d'Estalvis, currently "La Caixa".
This bibliographic collection is specialized in Economics and economic thought, Sociology and Law from the 16th to the 20th centuries (and especially in economic history of the 19th and early 20th centuries), and it was created over a long period of time by the economist Joan Carandell i Marimon (1901-1988), and subsequently acquired by AITPA in 1960.
It is formed by more than 12,000 monographs, published mainly between the 19th and 20th centuries, but also includes around: 300 volumes from between the 15th and 18th centuries, manuscript material of the “Casa de la Moneda del Principat de Catalunya”, starting in 1810, and 167 periodicals. This bibliographic collection is formed by approximately 1,130 documents, which about 110 are pragmatic sanctions, 325 Cédulas Reales and the rest are other types of normative and different documents.
In this first stage, those works considered of higher interest have been digitized.
