Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer

Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer (Figueres 1912-Barcelona 1967). Paralysed since birth, he taught himself sciences. His first work in mathematics was with the publication “Comptes Rendus” from the Académie des Sciences de Paris. From this moment, he worked with the Jacques Hadamard School, contributing to the progress of the theory of functions. In addition, he contributed to the definition of mathematical terminology in Catalan as vice-president of the Catalan Society of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and, especially, as a director of the Maths Section. He was also a member of many Mathematical Societies, including the American Mathematical Society.
