Geologica Acta

Evolution and economic significance of listwaenites associated with Neoproterozoic ophiolites in south Eastern Desert, Egypt / Azer, M.K. ; ;
Most South Eastern Desert ophiolites are found along the Allaqi-Heiani-Gerf suture along the Egypt-Sudan border. Serpentinites, altered slices of upper mantle, are the main components of this suture and other sutures in the Arabian-Nubian Shield. [...]

Origin of superimposed and curved slickenlines in San Miguelito range, Central México / Xu, S. ; Nieto-Samaniego, A.F. ; Alaniz-Álvarez, S.A. ; ; et al
Interactions between intersecting faults cause local perturbations of the stress field in the vicinity of their intersections. Fault intersections are places of stress accumulation, stress relief and refraction of the stress trajectories; the slip vectors near these intersections are deviated from the maximum shear stress resolved by the far-field stress. [...]

Tufa sedimentation in changing hydrological conditions : the River Mesa (Spain) / Auqué, L. ; Arenas, C. ; Osácar, C. ; Pardo, G. ; et al
The processes controlling tufa deposition along the River Mesa (NE Spain) were studied from April 2003 to September 2009, based on six-monthly monitoring of physical and chemical parameters of the river water and sedimentological characteristics, including deposition rates on tablets. [...]

Modern and late Holocene foraminiferal record of restricted environmental conditions in the Albufeira Lagoon, SW Portugal / Alday, M. (Universidade de Lisboa.
Benthic foraminifera from twenty stations sampled twice were analyzed in order to examine the environmental conditions of the Albufeira coastal lagoon. Foraminiferal assemblages show an increase in the abundance, species diversity and allochthonous content seaward. [...]

The influence of coastal processes on inner shelf sediment distribution : the Eastern Algarve Shelf (Southern Portugal) / Rosa, F. (University of Algarve. Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA)) ; Rufino, M. M. (University of Algarve. Centro Interdisciplinar de Investigação Marinha e Ambiental (CIIMAR/LNEG)) ; Ferreira, Ó. (University of Algarve. Faculty of Science and Technology/Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (FCT/CIMA)) ; Matias, A. (University of Algarve. Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA)) ; et al
This study examines sediment distribution patterns in the Southeastern Algarve inner shelf (southern Portugal), an area characterized by marked variations in its coastal environment and low continental supply of sediments. [...]

An accurate record of volcanic ash fall deposition as characterized by dispersed organic matter in a Lower Permian tonstein bed (Faxinal Coalfield, Paraná Basin, Brazil) / Simas, M.W. (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Instituto de Geociências) ; Guerra-Sommer, M. (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)) ; Mendonça, J.G. ; Cazzulo-Klepzig, Filho M. (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Instituto de Geociências) ; et al
For the first time, the dispersed organic matter in the tonstein layer interbedded with a coal seam in the Faxinal Coalfield (Sakmarian, Southern Paraná Basin, Brazil) is characterized. The deposition of clusters of pollen grains was highly influenced by the intense ash fall process that probably occurred during seasonal dehiscence of reproductive structures. [...]

Architectural characterization of a delta-front reservoir analogue combining Ground Penetrating Radar and Electrical Resistivity Tomography: Roda Sandstone (Lower Eocene, Graus-Tremp basin, Spain) / Coll, M. (Universitat de Barcelona. Institut de Recerca GEOMODELS – Group of Geodynamics and Basin Analysis) ; López-Blanco, M. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament d’Estratigrafia, Paleontologia i Geociències Marines) ; Queralt, P. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica) ; Ledo, J. (Universitat de Barcelona. Institut de Recerca GEOMODELS – Group of Geodynamics and Basin Analysis) ; et al
Three-dimensional reconstruction of reservoir analogues can be improved combining data from different geophysical methods. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) data are valuable tools, since they provide subsurface information from internal architecture and facies distribution of sedimentary rock bodies, enabling the upgrading of depositional models and heterogeneity reconstruction.
