Geologica Acta

Palynological age constraint of Les Vilelles unit, Catalan Coastal Chain, Spain. / González, F. (Universidad de Huelva. Departamento de Geología) ; Moreno, C. (Universidad de Huelva. Departamento de Geología) ; Melgarejo i Draper, Joan-Carles (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Cristal·lografia, Mineralogia i Dipòsits Minerals) ; Sáez, R. (Universidad de Huelva. Departamento de Geología)
Les Vilelles unit is a detrital sequence exposed at the southwestern margin of the Catalan Coastal Chain (CCC), NE Spain, below the Carboniferous turbiditic series. Based on the palynological content, the age of this unit was initially assigned to the Middle-Late Devonian (Eifelian to Famennian). [...]

LA-MC-ICP-MS dating of zircon from chromitite of the Archean Bangur Gabbro Complex, Orissa, India : ambiguities and constraints / Sunder-Raju, P.V. (National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR) (Telangana, Índia)) ; Hanski, E. (University of Oulu (Finlàndia). Oulu Mining School) ; Lahaye, Y. (Geological Survey of Finland)
The Mesoarchean chromitites in the Singhbhum craton provide the main source of chromium in India. We report here results of dating zircon grains that were found in the chromitite of ultramafic rocks belonging to the southern part of the Archean Baula Complex. [...]

Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra)
A new approach to the use of Persistent Scatterers (PS) Interferometry data in the reconstruction of the extension of compressible geological bodies is presented. The methodology was applied in the test area of the Tiber River delta (Italy), characterized by the presence of two large marshy zones, known as the Maccarese and Ostia Antica ponds. [...]

Departamento de Geología) ; Flor, Germán (Universidad de Oviedo. Departamento de Geología) ; Pando, Luis (Universidad de Oviedo. Departamento de Geología) ; Abanes, J. (Plymouth University. School of Marine Science and Engineering)
The estuary of San Vicente de la Barquera occupies two valleys that have incised into soft sedimentary rocks (Lower Mesozoic) and are controlled by inactive faults. These two estuary subsystems, the Escudo (main valley) and Gandarilla, share outer estuarine zones, i. [...]

Geochemistry of Precordillera serpentinites, western Argentina : evidence for multistage hydrothermal alteration and tectonic implications for the Neoproterozoic–early Paleozoic / Boedo, F. L. (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas) ; Escayola, M. P. (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas) ; Pérez Luján, S. B. (Universidad Nacional de San Juan (Argentina). Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales) ; Vujovich, Graciela (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas) ; Ariza, J. P. (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET). Instituto Geofísico Sismológico Volponi) ; Naipauer, M. (Universidad de Buenos Aires. Departamento de Ciencias Geológicas)
Serpentinites are a powerful tool to evaluate mantle composition and subsequent alteration processes during their tectonic emplacement. Exposures of this type of rocks can be found in the Argentine Precordillera (Cuyania terrane) and Frontal Cordillera, both located in central-western Argentina, within the Central Andes. [...]

Development of geology in Spain : a case study of a marginal science / Santanach i Prat, Pere F. (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Geodinàmica i Geofísica)
Geology in Spain developed outside the mainstream of major geological ideas. Geology was introduced intothe country when it had already grown mature. The history of geology in Spain is series of initiatives aimedat aligning the country with the innovative currents taking place in the rest of Europe. [...]

A new limit for the NW Río de la Plata Craton Border at about 24ºS (Argentina) detected by Magnetotellurics / Faveto, A. (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET). INGEIS) ; Rocha, V. (Universidad Nacional de Salta, Hidrogeología (Salta, Argentina)) ; Pomposiello, C. (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET). INGEIS) ; García, R. (Universidad Nacional de Salta, Hidrogeología (Salta, Argentina)) ; Barcelona, H. (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET). INGEIS)
Old South American structures constitute a puzzle where the Río de la Plata craton is the most important clue in the assembly of SW Gondwana. The present study was performed to improve the knowledge resulting from all the previous magnetotelluric (MT) studies focused particularly on characterizing the western border of the Rio de la Plata Craton.
