Geologica Acta
Geologica Acta (ISSN 1695-6133 / 1696-5728 e-ISSN) is an institutional open access journal, international and a general profile of Earth Sciences. The journal welcomes articles from both conceptual and regional levels, with special emphasis on areas of the Mediterranean, South America and the Caribbean, but without considering contributions from any region. Also encouraged the publication of theme issues that give the results of projects and international scientific meetings.

Petrogenesis of Miocene volcanic arc rocks over the Chilean-Pampean flat-slab segment of the Central Andes constrained by mineral chemistry / Litvak, V. D. (Instituto de Estudios Andinos Don Pablo Groeber (Buenos Aires, Argentina)) ; Poma, S. (Instituto de Geociencias Básicas, Aplicadas y Ambientales de Buenos Aires (Argentina))
Miocene arc volcanism is manifested widely in the Valle del Cura-El Indio belt region (29°30´–30° South latitude), in the southern Central Andes of Argentina and Chile. The magmas that fed this volcanism are well represented by the Cerro de las Tórtolas Formation, which is divided into two volcanic episodes based on petrographic, chemical and age differences: an older basaltic-andesitic event (16–14Ma) and a younger andesitic to dacitic (13–10Ma) one. Linkages between the southern Patagonia Pre-Permian basements : new insights from detrital zircons U-Pb SHRIMP ages from the Cerro Negro District / Permuy Vidal, C. (Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo) ; Moreira, P. (Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo) ; Guido, D. M. (Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo) ; Fanning, C. M. (The Australian National University. Research School of Earth Sciences)
The Patagonian basement rocks are dominated by Precambrian to Early Paleozoic metamorphic rocks intruded by Paleozoic granitoids. Recently discovered basement rocks in the Cerro Negro District are characterized mainly by quartz-muscovite-chlorite schists; the metamorphic grade reaches greenschist facies (biotite-garnet grade) with a regional S1 schistosity subparallel to the original sedimentary structure S0 and a secondary non-penetrative S2 foliation. A potential record of a procolophonid parareptile from the Triassic of the Iberian Peninsula / Fortuny, J. (Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont) ; Bolet, A. (Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont) ; Sellés, A. G. (Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont) ; Galobart, Àngel (Institut Català de Paleontologia Miquel Crusafont)
Cranial and postcranial remains from the Middle Triassic of the Northeastern part of the Iberian Peninsula are reported and tentatively assigned to Procolophonidae. The finding is the first occurrence of a procolophonid parareptile in the Iberian Peninsula, representing the southernmost record of the group in Europe. [...]

Owing to their tightness, intra reservoir barriers have the potential to prevent homogenization of reservoir fluids and so cause compartmentalization. Identification of these barriers is an important step during reservoir evaluation. [...]

Faculdade de Ciências) ; Universidade dos Açores. Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos. InBIO Laboratório Associado
This is the first palaeoecological and taphonomical study of the Recent marine ostracods from the Azores. The aims of this work were to address the following questions: i) to establish the typical ostracod assemblages from the shallow waters of the Azores; ii) to determine the bathymetric ranges for each ostracod species; iii) to investigate the time span and depth in which significant transport occurs; iv) to quantify the amount of out of habitat transport between sandy beaches, tide pools and the sublittoral; v) to determine distinctive taphonomic features that can be used to recognize the amount of temporal resolution in ostracod assemblages.
