INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT - ENGLISH TRACK
ECONOMICS - ENGLISH TRACK

GENERAL CONDITIONS

The Faculty of Economics and Business Studies organizes an Internship Programme specifically designed for fourth year students enrolled in the degrees of Business Administration and Management – English Track or Economics - English Track. This program provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in English speaking working environments and obtain 18 optional credits according to their Study Plan.

Students will be able to expand their learning process by acquiring new skills, which will prepare them for future employment in organizations operating internationally.

Employing organizations will benefit from having direct experience with most competent English speaking students, whilst introducing these students into their distinctive organizational practices and culture.

Students may propose a company which they have contacted directly or apply for an internship stay under an exchange programme.

Another possibility to arrange an internship is by private agency. Before any monetary transaction is made with a private agency students should make sure that the necessary conditions for the internship to be accepted by the Internships coordinator are met. For further information contact the Internship Coordinator:internships.fee@uab.cat.

Internship conditions and agreement signing

Students are required to stay in the company 300 hours minimum. Weekly working time should be set at around 20 to 25 hours, in 12 to 15 weeks. The internship period should preferably coincide with the academic second semester (January to June), even though organizational requirements could also be considered.

Company Information Sheet

Before any document is signed, the Company is expected to provide information to draw up the corresponding agreements, as well as a working plan describing the specific tasks to be performed and the goals to be achieved by students. The Company should also provide students with a letter accepting them for an internship to be undertaken in the second semester of the fourth academic year.

Framework Educational Cooperation Agreement

Once the working plan has been accepted by the Internships Coordinator at UAB, a Framework Educational Cooperation Agreement will be established linking the Company and the UAB. This document will state the convergence of wills between the parties and the common lines of action.

Specific Educational cooperation agreement

Upon formalization of the Framework Educational Cooperation Agreement, a specific agreement will be signed by the Company, the Student and the UAB, by which:

  1. A company professional tutor and a UAB academic tutor (a university lecturer) will be formally appointed.

  2. The length of the internship, the working time and the location will be stated.

  3. The working plan, previously submitted by the company tutor to the academic tutor, is also described.

  4. Remuneration or monetary contribution to study (if applicable), and any additional relevant details are stated.

Reporting and final mark

During the internship the professional tutor will be in charge of the training process, making sure that the working plan is accomplished. In essence, the student should have acquired new skills, in preparation of future employment in organizations operating internationally.

Once the internship is finished, the company’s tutor should write a brief report (link pending) in which the experience with the student is assessed. Students will deliver a report, (link pending) which should be written in English. On the whole, this document will show the students’ overall self-assessment related with the functions and activities performed.

Overall mark

  • The company’s tutor mark will count 50% of the overall mark.

  • The university tutor’s mark will count 40%.

  • Students’ self-assessment will count the remaining 10%.

(*)Students with internships assigned, are bound to register the Internship course during the change of registration period (September/ October), according to the Faculty’s academic calendar.

(**) Students without internships assigned (in process):  Exceptionally, the student may find a company later (maximum date: September/October 4th academic year).  If so, they are expected to have enrolled 18 optional credits (three optional subjects of 6 credits) during the official registration period (July) or during the change of registration period (September/ October), which would entail its subsequent substitution by the 18 credits of the Internship course, providing the student was officially allowed to enjoy an Internship stay. On the contrary, the three optional 6 credit courses would serve to complete the Degree.

Grants

Students willing to apply for an internship stay should know that they are also welcome to apply for a grant. The available programmes which are currently offered are Erasmus Internship or UAB Programme Internship. For further information follow the links.

Very important: Students should know that to be able to apply for any grant, the Coordinator should previously have assigned an internship position and agreements should have been formalized with the company.
