Resum:	Lo stile letterario e di pensiero grazie al quale Primo Levi seppe trasformare l'esperienza concreta di Auschwitz in un'opera letteraria tra le maggiori del Novecento fu un risultato del doppio ruolo che egli ricoprì in quell'evento: Levi fu simultaneamente vittima e testimone, persona che patì l'annientamento e indagatore spregiudicato dell'annientamento. Da entrambe le posizioni, la sua opera sollecita un intervento morale del lettore. Questo articolo analizza, a partire dalle cinque parole che compongono il titolo Se questo è un uomo, percorsi e paradossi della scrittura e della ricezione di Levi.
Resum:	The literary style and thought that allowed Primo Levi to transform the concrete experience in Auschwitz into one of the great literary pieces of the 20th century was the result of the double faceted role he played in that event: Levi was, at the same time, a victim and a witness, a person who experienced the annihilation and at the same time asked about this annihilation without any prejudging. From these two perspectives, his works call for a moral intervention of the reader. This article uses the five words composing the title If This Is a Man to analyse the paths and paradoxes of Levi's writing and acceptance.
