La llengua anglesa és la llengua de comunicació prioritària en el món acadèmic i científic, incloent-hi l'àmbit de les ciències socials i de les relacions internacionals. Degut a la importància d'aquest idioma a la comunicació internacional, les universitats estan promovent l'objectiu que tots els/les alumnes arribin al nivell B2 al 'Marc europeu comú de referència per a les llengües' en llengua anglesa abans d'acabar els estudis de grau. Dit això, aquesta assignatura del primer curs té dos objectius principals: (1) En primer lloc, és important recalcar que aquesta assignatura és de la Facultat de Ciències Polítiques i de Sociologia, i per tant té com a objectiu que els alumnes estudien i apliquen el vocabulari, les estructures gramaticals i els registres adequats per comprendre i expressar-se correctament amb els diversos textos, tant escrits com orals, que s'acostumen a trobar al món acadèmic i professional de les diverses ciències socials. (2) En segon lloc, la assignatura ajuda els estudiants a pujar el seu nivell de llengua anglesa perquè puguin arribar al nivell B2 abans d'acabar els estudis de grau. 1 Anglès per a les ciències socials 2015 - 2016 Atès que és una assignatura del primer curs, l'objectiu per als alumnes amb menys domini de l'idioma és d'apropar el seu nivell al B1 al marc europeu. No obstant això, la realitat és que els alumnes comencen el curs amb nivells des de A1 fins a C. Per tant, al començament del curs es fa una prova d'anivellament per col·locar els alumnes en grups més homogenis (en cada franja horària) i per a què els professors corresponents poden adaptar el contingut de cada grup al nivell més adient perquè els estudiants millorin els seus coneixements i habilitats de llengua anglesa al nivell i ritme més adequats al grup específic. Un cas concret són els/les estudiants que ja tenen el nivell C, els/les quals poden optar per escriure un treball de recerca en anglès, segons un calendari detallat i complint unes directrius. Aquests alumnes han de fer tota la recerca necessària i aplicar-hi totes les normes d'estil adequades per el seu nivell d'estudis. |

English has become the most prioritized language in academic and scientific spheres, including in the fields of social science and international relations. Due to this language's importance in international communication, universities are fostering the achievement of Level B2 (on the European Framework of Reference for Languages) in English language before students finish their first degree. Bearing this in mind, the subject has two main objectives: (1) First of all, it must be stressed that this subject is taught at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, and therefore its fundamental aim is for students to study and apply suitable vocabulary, grammatical structures and registers for understanding and expressing themselves correctly in the many types of texts, both oral and written, which commonly appear in the academic and professional world of the social sciences. (2) Secondly, the subject aims to help students raise their level of English language so that they can reach level B2 before completing their bachelor degree. 1 English for the Social Sciences 2015 - 2016 As it is a freshman-year course, the objective for those students with less mastery of the language is to bring their level up towards level B1 on the European Framework. Nevertheless, the reality is that students begin the year with levels ranging from A1 to C. Therefore, a placement test is given at the beginning of the year in order to place students in the most homogeneous groups possible (at each class time) and so that the professors can adapt the content to suit the learning needs of each group, according to their knowledge and skills. Students who already have level C are a specific case of the adaptation of the course by level. These students can opt to write a research paper in English instead of following the regular course, as long as they abide by the stipulated calendar and fulfill all the specified requirements. These students must carry out the necessary research and apply recognized rules of style for their level of studies. |
