Abstract:	El presente artículo analiza el cuento «Cartas de mamá» de Julio Cortázar a partir del funcionamiento de la elipsis y los espacios de indeterminación como una de las características primordiales del género fantástico junto con la yuxtaposición de órdenes, la problematización, el efecto, el tratamiento y la temática. Asimismo, postula que relatos como éste desautomatizan el proceso de lectura al impedir que se actualicen todos los vacíos informativos.
Abstract:	The following paper analyses how the ellipsis and the blank space function as the main features in categorizing Julio Cortázar's short story, «Cartas de mamá», as part of the fantastic genre -alongside with the order's juxtaposition, the conflict, the effect, the treatment, and the subject matter. Also, it postulates that these kind of literary texts alter the reading process by preventing the completion of all informative gaps.
