Abstract:	La expansión educativa constituye un fenómeno inapelable y decisivo en la historia del siglo XX en Europa. Sin embargo, en los albores del XXI, el mundo educativo se pregunta si el nivel de instrucción escolar de las sucesivas generaciones va a continuar aumentando o si, al contrario, ha alcanzado su máximo histórico. A través de un análisis prospectivo, sobre la hipótesis de tres escenarios posibles, el artículo esboza el futuro del aumento de los niveles de estudios en España con especial énfasis en la producción de titulados en bachillerato y estudios superiores. Las tasas de acceso a los niveles educativos elevados se estabilizará a partir de la generación nacida en 1977, por lo que cabe prever que el volumen de efectivos que los detentan iniciará su recesión alrededor del año 2007.
Abstract:	The expansion of education represents an incontestable and decisive development in 20th century history in Europe. However, in the wake of the 21st century the world of education wonders whether the standard of school teaching for successive generations will continue to grow or it has reached its historical high. By means of a prospective analysis based on the hypothesis of three possible scenarios, this article outlines the future of the increasing student standards in Spain, particularly emphasising the production of secondary and higher education graduates. Access rates to higher study levels will become stable starting from the generation born in 1977, therefore the volume of people with higher education will begin to recede around the year 2007.
