Abstract:	El modo de vida occidental es una construcción sociocultural particular de un espacio y un tiempo histórico concreto. Su noción de "progreso" nace con el colonialismo y la revolución industrial y, por tanto, tampoco es universal; de hecho, Corry afirma que no es ni el deseo de toda la humanidad ni el "objetivo" (si es que se puede decir que una sociedad tiene un objetivo) de todas las sociedades del planeta. El libro constituye ante todo un ejercicio de relativismo y de emancipación del etnocentrismo, y si bien Corry no trata de cambiar la visión de inferioridad que se tiene de los indígenas y su forma de vida desde las sociedades industrializadas (estereotipo del que analiza su génesis), lo que sí pretende es situarlos en el centro de un debate humanitario que tiene que ver con el reconocimiento y el respeto por algo que la sociedad occidental ha creado y teóricamente defiende: los Derechos Humanos fundamentales. Constituye, pues, una llamada a la acción y al debate para que tenga efectos reales sobre sus protagonistas: las personas que forman los pueblos indígenas. Sólo así podrán ser vistos como sujetos políticos, es decir con derechos, leit motiv del movimiento indígena.
Abstract:	The Western way of life is a particular sociocultural construction of a space and a specific historical time. His notion of "progress" borns with colonialism and the industrial revolution, and therefore is not universal; in fact, Corry asserts that it is neither the wish from all humanity nor the "target" (if we are able to say that a society has a purpose) from all human societies. The book is primarily an exercise in relativism and emancipation of ethnocentrism, and although Corry does not try to change the vision of inferiority that indigenous and their lifestyles has from industrialized societies (stereotype that analyzes its genesis), what he really tries to do is place them in the centre of a humanitarian debate related with recognition and respect for something that Western society has created and theoretically defends: Fundamental Human Rights. It is thus a call to action and debate in order to have real effects on their protagonists: the indigenous peoples. Only in this way they will be able to be seen as political subjects, that is, with rights, leit motiv of the indigenous movement.
