Victimisation and the fear of victimisation are two main areas of study in Criminology. In relation to these two aspects, previous studies have shown that there is relevance in diverse and associated factors such as ethnicity, social class and gender. However, different critical points remark aspects such as sexual orientation and gender identity, which lack further exploration, within criminology approaches. In this study, there is an attempt to identify the existing relations within sexuality and gender identity and the fear of being victimised. There is also an attempt to establish the ways in which the fear of victimisation shapes the conceptualisation of violence such as homophobia and transphobia, within the LGTB collective. Using a qualitative methodology, a new deeper levels regarding the relative differences of gender identity and sexual orientation in those interviewed are explored. The results show the existent differences between the gender identity of those interviewed and their sexual orientation. There are differences in fear depending on which gender each of the interviewed identify themselves with. Finally, the results also reveal the influence relating to the perception of homophobia and transphobia in the fear of victimisation, as well as in the relation that is established between the visibility and perception of the risk of being victimised.
