"Cobrar miedo" : sobre el uso histórico de "cobrar" en colocaciones con cualidades y estados negativos

Resum:	Este estudio examina el uso histórico de cobrar (en su sentido incoativo moderno de 'adquirir' y su acepción original reiterativa de 'recuperar') con sustantivos que designan cualidades o estados negativos (p. ej. cobrar miedo/pesar), una posibilidad que ya no existe. Mientras que el cobrar reiterativo parecía incompatible con sustantivos negativos, el cobrar incoativo se documenta con tales nombres desde el XIV. Aparentemente, las colocaciones tipo cobrar miedo representan una extensión efímera del uso más establecido de cobrar con sustantivos positivos y neutros (p. ej. cobrar cariño/fuerza), pues se extendieron entre el xv y el XVI pero fueron desapareciendo a partir del XVII, presumiblemente debido a la escasísima productividad de cobrar con sustantivos negativos, su declive general como colocativo incoativo, y la competencia con otros verbos. Junto a otros estudios diacrónicos anteriores, este trabajo contribuye al debate reciente sobre la direccionalidad de la selección léxica y semántica en las colocaciones.
Resum:	This study examines the historical use of cobrar (both in its modern inchoative sense of 'gaining' and itsoriginal reiterative meaning of 'regaining') with nouns designating negative states or qualities (e. g. cobrarmiedo/pesar), a possibility that no longer exists. While reiterative cobrar seemed to be incompatible with negativenouns, inchoative cobrar is documented with such nouns since the 1300s. Apparently, collocations of the type cobrarmiedo represent an ephemeral extension of the more established use of cobrar with positive and neutral nouns (e. g. cobrar cariño/fuerza), since they spread between the 1400s and 1500s but gradually disappeared starting in the 1600s,presumably as a result of the extremely low productivity of cobrar with negative nouns, its general decline as aninchoative collocate, and increased competition from other verbs. Together with previous diachronic studies, this papercontributes to the recent debate on the directionality of lexical and semantic selection in collocations.
