| Resumen: | This paper describes the professional and affective bond that existed between secretary Alfonso de Valdés and great chancellor Mercurino Gattinara, and proceeds to examine the influence of the Chancellor's political project on Valdés's ideas regarding the General Council, the temporal power of the Church and the Viceroy of Naples. |
