Abstract: The thought that CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) lessons can be followed only by students who already have a good command of the target language justifies this research project, in which we have studied the learning process of the Archimedes' principle developed by one student with special educational needs, who was present in a classroom were a CLIL unit (in this case, Science and English) was implemented. Starting from the point of view of sociocultural theories on teaching and learning and pedagogical approaches like inclusive education, the research questions in this project are: (1) which activities are carried out by this student in order to learn the target content? and (2) which is the observable new knowledge and through which discourse styles does this student express this knowledge? The main data for this project are 22 minutes of audiovisual recording corresponding to one of the lessons of this CLIL unit. This fragment has been transcribed and analysed by combining both content analysis and discourse analysis, and it has been observed that this student changes his way of looking at himself and looking at the world through the lens of the Science. More specifically, the analysis reveals that he uses different strategies in order to comprehend the target content; he shows some evidences of learning regarding most of the items of information in the target content, at least in the short term; and he also starts developing the scientific and communicative competences by showing an approach to the scientific discourse. At the same time, this student starts to build a new identity as a "good learner", which he wants to protect publicly.
