Nueve escollos para entender la cultura digital Casacuberta Sevilla, David Date: 2001 Abstract: La cultura y el arte digital están ciertamente de moda en nuestra sociedad, y poco a poco se van abriendo camino en el mundo académico. El objetivo de este artículo es describir brevemente nueve obstáculos que claramente dificultan el análisis teórico y serio de esta nueva forma de entender arte y cultura. Esos obstáculos son: insistir en distinguir entre el ser y el deber ser de la cultura digital, lo que es problemático en un producto cultural; la confusión entre cultura y soporte, que hace que se prediquen características de la cultura bajo análisis que en realidad son de las plataformas tecnológicas utilizadas; la falta de perspectiva histórica; la falacia de considerar que las TIC poseen características inmutables; las complejidades técnicas que las nuevas tecnologías añaden a la cultura; la falsa inmediatez de ciertos programas para la creación digital, que hacen olvidar el conocimiento y la disciplina implícita necesarios para la creación artística; la falta de apoyos académicos; la inexistencia de modelos teóricos suficientemente desarrollados, y la falta de seriedad de muchos aná-lisis en clave posmoderna de este fenómeno. Abstract: Digital arts and culture are certainly fashionable these days, and little by little, the Academia is also interested in them. The main aim of this paper is to give a brief description of nine obstacles which turn the subject of digital culture a very complex one from the theoretical point of view. These obstacles are: the obsession to distinguish between the «is» and the «ought» of digital culture, which is quite problematic when one wants to study a cultural product; the confusion between culture and its source; the lack of historical perspective; the falacy of believing that ICT have inmutable characteristics; the technological complexities which new technologies add now to culture; the false inmediacy of some programs developed for artistic creation, which make the artist to forget the knowledg and discipline implicit in artistic creation; the lack academic resources and help; the non-existant theoretical models, and the lack of theoretical significance of posmodern approaches to this phenomenon under discussion.
