10 p, 993.6 KB Three hundred eighty thousand year long stable isotope and faunal records from the Red Sea : influence of global sea level change on hydrography / Hemleben, Christoph (University of Tübingen. Institute and Museum for Geology and Paleontology) ; Meischner, Dieter (University of Göttingen. Institute for Geology and Paleontology) ; Zahn, Rainer (GEOMAR Research Center for Marine Geosciences (Alemanya)) ; Almogi-Labin, Ahuva (Geological Survey of Israel) ; Erlenkeuser, Helmut (Institut für Reine und Angewandte Kernphysik (Alemanya)) ; Hiller, Birgit (University of Tübingen. Institute and Museum for Geology and Paleontology)
Stable isotope and faunal records from the central Red Sea show high-amplitude oscillations for the past 380,000 years. Positive δ18O anomalies indicate periods of significant salt buildup during periods of lowered sea level when water mass exchange with the Arabian Sea was reduced due to a reduced geometry of the Bab el Mandeb Strait. 15 p, 1.2 MB Sea surface temperature changes in the southern California borderlands during the last glacial-interglacial cycle / Mortyn, P. Graham (University of South Carolina. Department of Geological Sciences) ; Thunell, Robert C. (University of South Carolina. Department of Geological Sciences) ; Anderson, David M. (NOAA Paleoclimatology Program (Boulder, Colorado)) ; Stott, Lowell D. (University of South Carolina. Department of Earth Sciences) ; Le, Jianning (University of South Carolina. Department of Geological Sciences)
A variety of evidence suggests that average sea surface temperatures (SSTs) during the last glacial maximum in the California Borderlands region were significantly colder than during the Holocene. Planktonic foraminiferal δ18O evidence and average SST estimates derived by the modern analog technique indicate that temperatures were 6°-10°C cooler during the last glacial relative to the present.
