20 p, 4.6 MB Tectono-metamorphic evolution of the Wadi Hafafit Culmination (central Eastern Desert, Egypt). Implication for Neoproterozoic core complex exhumation in NE Africa / El-Naby, H. Abd (Nuclear Materials Authority) ; Frisch, Wolfgang (Universität Tübingen. Institut für Geowissenschaften) ; Siebel, Wolfgang (Universität Tübingen. Institut für Geowissenschaften) ; King Abdulaziz University. Faculty of Earth Sciences
The Neoproterozoic rock assemblages in the Wadi Hafafit Culmination (WHC) can be subdivided into two main units which are separated by the Nugrus Thrust. The structurally higher Nugrus unit is mainly composed of low grade micaschists, metavolcanic, serpentinites, and metagabbros. [...]

5 p, 722.8 KB A revised Ordovician age for the Sisargas orthogneiss, Galicia (Spain). Zircon U-Pb ion-microprobe and LA-ICPMS dating / Talavera, Cristina (Universidad de Granada. Departamento de Mineralogía y Petrología) ; Bea, Fernando (Universidad de Granada. Departamento de Mineralogía y Petrología) ; González Montero, Pilar (Universidad de Granada. Departamento de Mineralogía y Petrología) ; Whitehouse, Martin (Swedish Museum of Natural History)
The Sisargas orthogneiss is located in the Schistose Domain of the Galicia Trás-Os-Montes Zone. It has previously been dated by Allegret and Iglesias (1987) who reported an U-Pb upper intercept at 570 ± 14 Ma, considered to be the crystallization age. [...]

15 p, 1.2 MB New SHRIMP U-Pb data from the Famatina Complex : constraining Early-Mid Ordovician Famatinian magmatism in the Sierras Pampeanas, Argentina / Dahlquist, Juan Andrés (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (Argentina)) ; Pankhurst, Robert John (British Geological Survey) ; Washington Rapela, Carlos (CIG-CONICET-UNLP) ; Galindo, Carmen (Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Departamento de Petrología y Geoquímica) ; Alasino, Pablo (CRILAR-CONICET) ; Fanning, Mark (Research School of Earth Sciences) ; Saavedra, Julio (Instituto de Recursos Naturales y Agrobiología de Salamanca) ; Baldo, Edgardo G. A (Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (Argentina))
New SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages are reported for igneous and sedimentary rocks of the Famatina Complex, constraining the age of the magmatism and the ensialic basins. Together with whole-rock and isotope geochemistry for the igneous rocks from the complex, these ages indicate that the voluminous parental magmas of metaluminous composition were derived by partial melting of an older lithosphere without significant asthenospheric contribution. 10 p, 2.6 MB Permian 40Ar/39Ar ages for post-Variscan minor intrusions in the Iberian Range and Spanish Central System / Perini, Giulia (Università di Firenze. Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra) ; Jan Timmerman, Martin (Universität Potsdam. Institut für Geowissenschaften) ; Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. Departamento de Geología
40Ar/39Ar dating of biotite from a calc-alkaline gabbro stock NW of Loscos in the Iberian Range yielded a slightly disturbed gas release spectrum. It has an early Permian, 288. 5 ± 1. 4 Ma total gas age, interpreted as the minimum emplacement age. [...]

17 p, 1.7 MB Amphibians and squamate reptiles from the latest early Pleistocene of Cueva Victoria (Murcia, southeastern Spain, SW Mediterranean): Paleobiogeographic and paleoclimatic implications / Blain, Hugues-Alexandre (Universitat Rovira i Virgili. Àrea de Prehistòria) ; Bailon, Salvador (Laboratoire départemental de Préhistoire du Lazaret) ; Agustí, Jordi, 1954- (Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats)
The karstic filling of Cueva Victoria in southeastern Spain, dated from the latest early Pleistocene (ca. 1. 1 Ma), is famous for providing primate fossil remains (Theropithecus) of typical African origin, in the general controversy on the antiquity of the first hominid settlements in Western Europe and their possible entrance into Europe through the Strait of Gibraltar. 5 p, 1.0 MB Early Cambrian sponge spicules from the Cerro Clemente and Cerro Rajón, Sonora, México / McMenamin, Mark A. S. (Mount Holyoke College. Department of Geology and Geography)
Acid maceration and thin section analysis of archaeocyathan limestones of the Cerro Clemente and Cerro Rajón, Sonora, México, have yielded some of the most ancient sponge fossils reported from the North American Cordillera. [...]

14 p, 923.4 KB Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary (KPB) Fish Clay at Højerup (Stevns Klint, Denmark): Ni, Co, and Zn of the black marl / Premovic, Pavle I. (University of Nis. Laboratory for Geochemistry, Cosmochemistry and Astrochemistry) ; Todorović, Bratislav Ž. (University of Nis. Laboratory for General Chemistry) ; Stanković, Maja N. (University of Nis. Laboratory for Geochemistry, Cosmochemistry and Astrochemistry)
The black marl of the Fish Clay at Højerup is mainly made up of biogenic calcite and cheto-Mg-smectite. We suggest that the formation of the smectite occurred during the latest Maastrichtian (or earlier) and that it represents a short period of rapid redeposition through coastal erosion occurring at the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary (KPB) sea level lowstand.
