13 p, 5.5 MB Stars in the Silurian sky : Echinoderm holdfasts from the Carnic Alps, Austria / Ferretti, A. (Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia. Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche e Geologiche) ; Ausich, W. I. (The Ohio State University. School of Earth Sciences) ; Corradini, C. (Università di Cagliari. Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche e Geologiche) ; Corriga, M. G. (Università di Cagliari. Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche e Geologiche) ; Schönlaub, H. P. (Austrian Academy of Sciences. Commission for Geosciences)
A small collection of echinoderm holdfasts from the Ludlow Cardiola Formation of the Carnic Alps (Austria) contains a wide range of morphologies as a response of environmental adaptation. In general, the holdfasts have a globous and massive dome-like profile with several processes arranged in a sub-radial disposition, so to create a sort of 'star-like' outline. [...]

Departament de Dinàmica de la Terra i de l'Oceà) ; Martín-Closas, Carles (Universitat de Barcelona. Departament de Dinàmica de la Terra i de l'Oceà)
The Fontllonga section is one of the best-known stratigraphic sections wordwide for the study of charophyte biostratigraphy of the Maastrichtian and lower Palaeocene. An updated proposal for the charophyte biostratigraphy of this section is presented after summarizing previous knowledge. [...]

22 p, 8.9 MB Facies analysis and paleoenvironmental reconstruction of Upper Cretaceous sequences in the eastern Para-Tethys Basin, NW Iran / Omidvar, M. (University of Isfahan (Isfahan, Iran). Department of Geology) ; Safari, A. (University of Isfahan (Isfahan, Iran). Department of Geology) ; Vaziri-Moghaddam, H. (University of Isfahan (Isfahan, Iran). Department of Geology) ; Ghalavand, H. (National Iranian Oil Company)
Upper Cretaceous mixed carbonate-siliciclastic sequences are among the most important targets for hydrocarbon exploration in the Moghan area, located in the eastern Para-Tethys Basin. Despite of their significance, little is known about their facies characteristics and depositional environments. [...]

Detailed organic and inorganic geochemical analyses were used to assess the depositional environment and source rock potential of the Cenomanian and Turonian oil shale deposits in the Tarfaya Basin. This study is based on core samples from the Tarfaya Sondage-4 well that penetrated over 300m of Mid Cretaceous organic matter-rich deposits. [...]
