In this paper, I will analyze some main axes of the José Saramago's novel The stone raft, first published in 1986, as the narration of the physical de-tachment of the Iberian Peninsula from Europe. The travelling Peninsula can be understood as a response to the feeling of inequality and, at the same time, as a search for identity and freedom vis-à-vis Europe. [...]
