We construct the first example of a 5-dimensional simply connected compact manifold that admits a K-contact structure but does not admit any semi-regular Sasakian structure. For this, we need two ingredients: (a) to construct a suitable simply connected symplectic 4-manifold with disjoint symplectic surfaces spanning the homology, all of them of genus 1 except for one of genus g > 1; (b) to prove a bound on the second Betti number b2 of an algebraic surface with b1 = 0 and having disjoint complex curves spanning the homology, all of them of genus 1 except for one of genus g > 1.

Recently there are several works studying the finance model ẋ=z+x(y−a),ẏ=1−by−x2,ż=−x−cz, where a,b and c are positive parameters. The first objective of this paper is to show that this model exhibits one small-amplitude periodic solution emerging from a Hopf bifurcation at the equilibrium point (0, 1/b, 0) and in the second one we show that this system does not have invariant algebraic surfaces for any value of the parameters.

The aim of this note is to offer a summary of the definitions and properties of arithmetic symbols on the linear group Gl(n, F) -F being an arbitrary discrete valuation field-, and to show that the natural generalizations of the Parshin symbol on an algebraic surface S to the linear group Gl(n, ΣS) do not allow us to define new 2-dimensional symbols on S.
