8 p, 965.9 KB Correlating magnetic fabrics with finite strain : comparing results from mudrocks in the Variscan and Appalachian Orogens / Parés, J. M. (University of Michigan. Department of Geological Sciences) ; Van Der Pluijm, B. A. (University of Michigan. Department of Geological Sciences)
New magnetic anisotropy data from Variscan mudstones collected in the Cantabrian Arc, N Spain constrain the corresponding strain (shortening). The results are based on our previous study of mudrocks from the Valley and Ridge Province (Appalachians) where independent strain quantification of pencil structures permitted a correlation between magnetic fabric and tectonic strain. 23 p, 1.7 MB Paleogeographic inversion resulting from large out of sequence breaching thrusts: The León Fault (Cantabrian Zone, NW Iberia). A new picture of the external Variscan Thrust Belt in the Ibero-Armorican Arc / Alosno, J. L. (Universidad de Oviedo. Departamento de Geología) ; Marcos, A. (Universidad de Oviedo. Departamento de Geología) ; Suárez, A. (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España)
Out of sequence breaching thrusts may give rise to duplication of a former thrust stack in map view in the same manner that stratigraphic units are repeated by initial thrusts. In this way, large breaching thrusts may put an inicial paleogeographic pattern out of order, producing apparent paleogeographic inversions at regional scale. [...]
