The NRT algorithm for near-real time estimation of global LAI, FAPAR, and FCOVER variables from SPOT/VEGETATION (VGT) satellite data is described here. It consists of three steps: 1) neural networks (NNT) (one for each variable) to provide instantaneous estimates from daily VGT-P reflectances; 2) a multistep filtering approach to eliminate data mainly affected by atmospheric effects and snow cover; and 3) Savitzky-Golay and climatology temporal smoothing and gap filling techniques to ensure consistency and continuity as well as short-term projection of the product dynamics. Background: During the 20th century the alpha coefficient (α) was widely used in the estimation of the internal consistency reliability of test scores. After misuses were identified in the early 21st century alternatives became widespread, especially the omega coefficient (ω). [...]

8 p, 1.5 MB Individual differences in the neuroendocrine response of male rats to emotional stressors are not trait-like and strongly depend on the intensity of the stressors / Nadal i Alemany, Roser (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Neurociències) ; Armario Garcia, Antonio (Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Salud Mental)
Biological response to stressors is critical to understand stress-related pathologies and vulnerability to psychiatric diseases. It is assumed that we can identify trait-like characteristics in biological responsiveness by testing subjects in a particular stressful situation, but there is scarce information on this issue. We consider a society whose members have to choose not only an outcome from a given set of outcomes but also a subset of agents that will remain members of the society. We study the extensions of approval voting, scoring methods and the Condorcet winner to our setting from the point of view of their internal stability and consistency properties.

En este trabajo se presenta una guía conceptual y práctica para estimar la fiabilidad de consistencia interna de medidas obtenidas mediante suma o promedio de ítems con base en las aportaciones más recientes de la psicometría. [...]
Based on recent psychometric developments, this paper presents a conceptual and practical guide for estimating internal consistency reliability of measures obtained as item sum or mean. The internal consistency reliability coefficient is presented as a by-product of the measurement model underlying the item responses. [...]

23 p, 369.9 KB Benchmark inequality measures / Permanyer, Iñaki
In measuring the variability of a bounded variable such as health status, the use of traditional income inequality measures poses several problems. On the one hand, the bounded nature of the variable generates a strong relationship between its mean and the corresponding inequality levels (i. [...]

The success of any poverty eradication program crucially depends on its ability to identify who is poor and who is not. In this paper, we show that the state-of-the-art methodology that is used to identify the poor in multidimensional contexts -the dual cutoff method suggested by Alkire and Foster- is insensitive to many of the subtle considerations that should be incorporated when making such delicate decisions. Consider the following principle regarding the performance of collective choice rules. 78 p, 749.6 KB Time-consistently undominated policies / Brendon, Charles ; Ellison, Martin
This paper proposes and characterises a new normative solution concept for Kydland and Prescott problems, allowing for a commitment device. A policy choice is dominated if either (a) an alternative exists that is superior to it in a time-consistent subdomain of the constraint set, or (b) an alternative exists that Pareto-dominates it over time.
