18 p, 438.9 KB Diachronic change and variation in use : judgments of clitic doubling in Peninsular vs. Rioplatense Spanish / Rinke, Esther (Goethe University Frankfurt) ; Lago, Sol (Goethe University Frankfurt) ; Gattei, Carolina Andrea (Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Buenos Aires)
Previous studies have demonstrated that in spontaneous speech, Rioplatense Spanish speakers-in contrast to speakers of Peninsular Spanish-sometimes produce clitic-doubled accusative nominal objects. If this contrast between varieties reflects different grammatical systems, it would be expected to also affect the acceptability of clitic doubling across varieties. [...]

The generally accepted hypothesis is that grammaticalization and analogy are two different processes and even opposed. While the analogy reflects the event of changes without producing changes in the structure of the grammatical system of a language, grammaticalization rather takes care of the "first origin of forms" by leading to a reorganization of the entire system. 27 p, 1.3 MB Polarized Variation / Zuraw, Kie (University of California)
In cases of exceptionality, there are usually many words that behave regularly, a smaller number that behave irregularly (the exceptions), and perhaps an even smaller number whose behavior varies. This paper presents several examples of exceptionality and variation that are polarized in this way: most items exhibit one behavior or the other consistently, with only a minority of items showing variation. [...]
Quan parlem d'excepcionalitat, generalment hi ha moltes paraules amb un comportament regular, un grup menor amb comportament irregular (les excepcions), i potser un grup encara menor que varien. Aquest article presenta diversos exemples d'excepcionalitat i de variació que son polaritzats així: la majoria dels ítems exhibeixen un comportament o l'altre quasi constantment, amb només una minoria d'ítems que varien. [...]

33 p, 387.6 KB Semantic change and intersubjectification : The origin of reprise evidential conditional in Old Catalan / Martines, Josep (Universitat d'Alacant)
The reprise evidential conditional (REC) is nowadays not very usual in Catalan: it is restricted to journalistic language and to some very formal genres (such as academic or legal language), it is not present in spontaneous discourse. [...]
El condicional evidencial de report (CER) no és gaire habitual en català: està restringit al llenguatge periodístic i a alguns registres molt formals (com el llenguatge acadèmic o el legal) i no es troba en el discurs espontani. [...]

19 p, 322.5 KB Phraseologization as a process of semantic change / Sánchez López, Elena (Universitat d'Alacant. Departament de Filologia Catalana)
On the one hand, phraseology has sorted out how to describe Phraseological meaning from a synchronic perspective. On the other, cognitive diachronic linguistics has thoroughly described the process of semantic change and the mechanisms leading to it, but mostly focusing on grammaticalization. [...]
Per una part, la fraseologia ha aconseguit definir el significat fraseològic des d'una perspectiva sincrònica. Per l'altra, la lingüística cognitiva diacrònica ha descrit el procés de canvi semàntic i els mecanismes que el provoquen, però centrant-se sobretot en el procés de gramaticalització. [...]

This paper sets out a comparison between modern and old Italo-Romance varieties with the aim of understanding the mechanisms that characterize the syntactic operations associated with the information structure of the sentence, as well as identifying their triggering factors. [...]
En aquest article es comparen varietats d'italo-romànic modern i antic amb l'objectiu d'entendre els mecanismes que caracteritzen les operacions sintàctiques associades amb l'estructura informativa de la frase, així com identificar els factors que les desencadenen. [...]
