[...] This article aims to do a theoretical siege of pathological metaphor by analysing Samanta Schweblin's short story «La respiración cavernaria», an outstanding representative of a rather unusual phenomenon in illness literature (a non-mimetic illness narrative), on three fronts: in «Casa de retiro Macondo» the process of memory loss entails the failure of «identity» as the skein of memories unravels; in «Can the patient speak?» we interrogate the incommunicability between the parallel worlds of the healthy and thesick by recovering the resistant instances of a certain postcolonial narrative; and in «Fenomenología schwebliniana de los contenedores» we will take posthuman thought to the extreme in order to re-signify the impossible agency of a «soulless» body.

[...] The aim of this study is to understand the meaning of the unusual recreation of fairy tales in the current narrative written in Spanish. Taken as an example "Little Red Riding Hood", we rely on parody's concept (Hutcheon 2000), which can be characterized as the repetition of an hypotext, a genre or a convention, while introducing the difference or a critical comment on the parodied object.
[...] Nowadays there is a consensus about the outstanding capacity of the fantastic genre to make use of its own motifs and mechanisms to address contemporary social issues. This is the case of three short stories written by contemporary Argentinean authors: «La mancha» (2017), by Patricia Ratto, «Miedo al sauce» (2019), by Gabriela Colombo and «Septiembre en la piel» (2019), by Yanina Rosenberg. /
[...] In this article, two short stories by Carlos Fuentes illustrate how the representation of vegetal nature by literary resources linked with the fantastic discourse build two types of tales. In other words, based on both texts, two models that exploit the semantic versatility of nature in different ways can be distinguished within the Fantastic Literature genre. [...]

[...] Understanding along with Ponnau, Grivel, Mellier or Soldini, among others, the fantastic as «sentiment», and together with Belville (2013) the paradoxical, protean and mutable appearance of the monstrous as a figure inextricably linked to the stories of the strange and the narratives of the disturbing, I will start from two examples of monstrous inter-species hybridization to analyze what, in this way, contemporary fantastic cinema resorts to the vegetal as «between-two» or «interstitial monstrosity» (Veliz, 2021).
