We construct two planar homoeomorphisms f and g for which the origin is a globally asymptotically stable fixed point whereas for f∘g and g∘f the origin is a global repeller. We show that for periodic non-autonomous discrete dynamical systems, even when a common fixed point for each of the autonomous associated dynamical systems is repeller, this fixed point can became a local attractor for the whole system, giving rise to a Parrondo's dynamic type paradox.

We prove a global asymptotic stability result for maps coming from n-th order difference equation and satisfying a Markus-Yamabe type condition. We also show that this result is sharp.
