/
Lozano Cutanda, Blanca (CUNEF Universidad)
In this study that I dedicate to Manuel Ballbé Mallol, whose wornderful friend-ship remains indelible in my memory, I carry out a summary expositicon of the conclusions of the IPCC scientists and of the main legal measures that are being adopted to fight climate change at the international and European level.

The wastewater sector paradigm is shifting from wastewater treatment to resource recovery. In addition, concerns regarding sustainability during the operation have increased. In this sense, many water utilities have become aware of the potential GHG emissions during the operation of wastewater treatment. [...]

Many different alternatives exist to manage and treat sewage sludge, all with the common drawback of causing environmental and odour impacts. The main objective of this work is to present a full inventory of the gaseous and odorous emissions generated during the bench-scale composting of conventional sewage sludge, aiming at assessing the process performance and providing global valuable information of the different gaseous emission patterns and emission factors found for greenhouse gases (GHG) and odorant pollutants during the conventional sewage sludge composting process. Coastal marshes contribute greatly to atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs) and have thus attracted considerable attention at regional and global scales. However, the relative importance of climates and soil variables to the geographical variation of GHG emissions at a large geographical scale remains poorly understood. [...]

Aerobic methanotrophs in paddies serve as methane (CH₄) filters and thereby reduce CH₄ emissions. Amending soil with waste products can mitigate CH₄ emissions in crops, but little is known about the impacts of amendments with steel slag and biochar on the populations and activities of aerobic methanotrophs in rice cropland.
