Se revisa la evolución conceptual de algunos elementos que conforman el nuevo ecosistema de comunicación de masas, tales como globalización, brecha digital o cultura de masas. Se señalan algunos de los efectos de la sobreoferta informativa en Internet y se incide especialmente en el uso de imágenes digitales en el sistema audiovisual, sobre todo en las aplicaciones en el ámbito cinematográfico del fenómeno de la realidad virtual.
