Given any uniform domain Ω, the Triebel-Lizorkin space Fsp,qpΩq with 0 ă s ă 1 and 1 ă p, q ă 8 can be equipped with a norm in terms of first order differences restricted to pairs of points whose distance is comparable to their distance to the boundary. [...]

If T is any bounded linear operator on Besov spaces Bpσj,qj(Rn)(j=0,1, and 0<σ1<σ<σ0), it is proved that the commutator [T,Tμ]=TTμ -TμT is bounded on Bpσ,q (Rn), if Tμ is a Fourier multiplier such that μ is any (possibly unbounded) symbol with uniformly bounded variation on dyadic coronas.

What is the role of emigration in a deep recession when the government implements fiscal consolidation? To answer this question, we build a small open economy New Keynesian model with matching frictions and emigration. [...]

Departament d'Economia Aplicada) ; Alcántara, Vicent (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Economia Aplicada)
We analyse the relationship between the economic structure and CO2 emissions from fossil sources for Ecuador, a small developing country that exports raw materials. We use an input-output method to identify the relevant economic sectors in CO2 emissions. [...]

We extend Rubio de Francia's extrapolation theorem for functions valued in UMD Banach function spaces, leading to short proofs of some new and known results. In particular we prove Littlewood-Paley-Rubio de Francia-type estimates and boundedness of variational Carleson operators for Banach function spaces with UMD concavifications.

29 p, 1.4 MB An operational, nonlinear input-output system / Guerra, Ana-Isabel (Universidad de Granada) ; Sancho Pifarré, Ferran (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Economia i d'Història Econòmica)
We develop a scale-dependent nonlinear input-output model which is a practical alternative to the conventional linear counterpart. The model contemplates the possibility of different assumptions on returns to scale and is calibrated in a simple manner that closely resembles the usual technical coefficient calibration procedure. Let X, Y be Hausdorff topological spaces, and let E and F be Hausdorff topological vector spaces. For certain subspaces A (X,E) and A(Y, F) of C(X,E) and C(Y, F) respectively (including the spaces of Lipschitz functions), we characterize surjections S, T : A (X;E) → A(Y, F), not assumed to be linear, which jointly preserve common zeros in the sense that Z (f - f') ∩ Z (f - f') ∩ Z (g - g') ≠ 0 if and only if Z (Sf - Sf') ∩ Z (Tg - Tg') ≠ 0 for all f, f', g, g' ∈ A (X, E). We study the relationship between stable sampling sequences for band-limited functions in Lp(Rn) and the Fourier multipliers in Lp. In the case that the sequence is a lattice and the spectrum is a fundamental domain for the lattice the connection is complete. [...]

Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; Oriols, Xavier (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Enginyeria Electrònica) ; American Physical Society
A model to study soliton propagation characteristics in nonlinear transmission lines (NLTLs) periodically loaded with voltage dependent capacitances is presented. This is based on the LC ladder equivalent network of the NLTL, and can be applied to structures where the Korteweg-de Vries approach does not hold. [...]

38 p, 1.7 MB An index of static resilience in interindustry economics / Sancho Pifarré, Ferran (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Departament d'Economia i d'Història Econòmica) ; Guerra, Ana-Isabel (Universidad de Granada) ; Agnani, Betty (Universidad de Granada) ; Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Unitat de Fonaments de l'Anàlisi Econòmica
We introduce a novel static indicator of economy-wide resilience that captures the ability of an economy to adjust and recover from a negative shock from either the demand or the supply side. The metric is counterfactual and reveals by simulation the extent of the adjustments that would keep total income at least at the initial pre-shock level while maintaining the initial economic structure. 60 p, 2.1 MB Fiscal consolidation programs and income inequality / Brinca, Pedro ; Ferreira, Miguel H. ; Franco, Francesco ; Holter, Hans A. ; Malafry, Laurence
Following the Great Recession, many European countries implemented fiscal consolidation policies aimed at reducing government debt. Using three independent data sources and three different empirical approaches, we document a strong positive relationship between higher income inequality and stronger recessive impacts of fiscal consolidation programs across time and place. 52 p, 1.3 MB Sources of borrowing and fiscal multipliers / Priftis, Romanos ; Zimic, Srecko
We find that debt-financed government spending multipliers vary considerably depending on the location of the debt holder. In a sample of 59 countries we find that government spending multipliers are larger when government purchases are financed by issuing debt to foreign investors (non-residents), compared to the case when government purchases are financed by issuing debt to home investors (residents). 41 p, 664.8 KB The government wage bill and private activity / Bermperoglou, Dimitrios ; Pappa, Evi ; Vella, Eugenia
We estimate the effects of public wage expenditures on output and the labor market in U. S. data by identifying shocks to public employment and public wages using sign restrictions. Public wage shocks do not induce significant effects on output, but disaggregating by government level reveals that their effects can be contractionary at the federal level and expansionary at the state and local level.
