Departamento de Farmacia y Ciencias de los Alimentos) ; Andonegi, Aitor (Universidad del País Vasco. Departamento de Biología Vegetal y Ecología) ; Gamboa, Gonzalo (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambientals) ; Garmendía, Eneko (Universidad del País Vasco. Departamento de Economía Aplicada) ; García, Oihana (Universidad del País Vasco. Departamento de Economía Aplicada) ; Aldai, Noelia (Universidad del País Vasco. Departamento de Farmacia y Ciencias de los Alimentos) ; Aldezabal, Arantza (Universidad del País Vasco. Departamento de Biología Vegetal y Ecología)
This article describes a novel methodological approach for the integrated sustainability assessment of pasture-based dairy sheep systems. Most studies on livestock system sustainability focus on animal production, farm profitability, and mitigation strategies of greenhouse gas emissions. [...]

18 p, 1.8 MB On co-orbital quasi-periodic motion in the three-body problem / Cors Iglesias, Josep Maria (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Departament de Matemàtiques) ; Palacián, Jesus F. (Universidad Pública de Navarra. Departamento de Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas) ; Yanguas, Patricia (Universidad Pública de Navarra. Departamento de Estadística, Informática y Matemáticas)
Within the framework of the planar three-body problem we establish the existence of quasi-periodic motions and KAM 4-tori related to the co-orbital motion of two small moons about a large planet where the moons move in nearly circular orbits with almost equal radii. [...]

14 p, 1.2 MB Understanding oncogenicity of cancer driver genes and mutations in the cancer genomics era / Porta-Pardo, Eduard. (Institut Germans Trias i Pujol. Institut de Recerca contra la Leucèmia Josep Carreras) ; Valencia, A. (Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats) ; Godzik, A. (Division of Biomedical Sciences. University of California Riverside School of Medicine) ; Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona
One of the key challenges of cancer biology is to catalogue and understand the somatic genomic alterations leading to cancer. Although alternative definitions and search methods have been developed to identify cancer driver genes and mutations, analyses of thousands of cancer genomes return a remarkably similar catalogue of around 300 genes that are mutated in at least one cancer type. [...]

6 p, 384.6 KB Multiscale modeling of spin transport across a diffuse interface / Chureemart, Jessada (Mahasarakham University. Department of Physics) ; Cuadrado, Ramón (Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia) ; Chureemart, Phanwadee (Mahasarakham University. Department of Physics) ; Chantrell, Roy W. (University of York. Department of Physics)
We present multiscale calculations to describe the spin transport behavior of the Co/Cu bilayer structure including the effect of the interface. The multiscale approach introduces the connection between the ab initio calculation used to describe the electronic structure of the system and the generalized spin accumulation model employed to describe the spin transport behavior. 21 p, 201.8 KB Sharp growth estimates for dyadic b-input T(b) theorems / Salomone, Stephanie Anne (University of Portland. Department of Mathematics)
The following deals with the T(b) theorems of David, Journé, and Semmes [7] considered in a dyadic setting. We find sharp growth estimates for a global and a local dyadic T(b) Theorem. We use multiscale analysis and Haar wavelets in the local case.

L'angiogènesi, la formació de nous vasos sanguinis a partir dels preexistents, és essencial per al desenvolupament normal i juga un paper crucial en patologies com el càncer, la diabetis i l'aterosclerosi. [...]

Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones, is essential for normal development and plays a crucial role in such pathologies as cancer, diabetes and atherosclerosis. In spite of extensive research, many aspects of how new vessels sprout from existing vasculature remain unclear. [...]

220 p, 1.6 MB Theoretical analyses of phenomen a involving photoactive proteins: a multiscale approach / Nadal Ferret, Marc ; Gelabert Peiri, Ricard, dir.
In the thesis Theoretical analysis of phenomena involving photoactive proteins: a multiscale approach a collection of issues regarding photoactive proteins is studied. Our analysis requires the use of multiscale techniques (that is, thorough high-level calculations on a specific region combined with less demanding calculations on the rest of the system) and brings about the development of new methodologies to understand what happens there. [...]
