Worldwide, protected areas represent one of the main attractions for national and international visitors (Bushell, 2003). Since the end of the 20th century, tourism growth has created different pressures on natural spaces, mainly caused by changes in land use (Boavida-Portugal, Rocha, & Ferreira, 2016). [...]

/
[...] By the end of the 1970s, four documentaries about Doñana National Park were broadcast within the National Spanish Television series Man and the Earth, directed by Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente. Through the account of the Park's life cycle -each chapter matched each one of the year's seasons-, these chapters were a celebration of the struggle to conserve the natural heritage, whose meaning was established in relation to a beautifully-produced representation of both nature and the natural sciences. The early 20th century saw the beginning of a process of urbanizing rural space (Berry, 1976a; 1976b), described as counter-urbanization (Champion, 1989). The creation of Protected Natural Areas (PNAs) has defined some rural spaces, relatively far from large urban metropolitan areas, where the ecological and scenic value is a magnet for urbanization (Prados, 2005). [...]
