Composting has demonstrated to be an effective and sustainable technology to valorise organic waste in the framework of circular economy, especially for biowaste. Composting can be performed in various technological options, from full-scale plants to community or even individual composters. [...]

[...] In this paper I propose the use of the ethics of care as a theoretical and political framework for rethinking 'robotics' and 'artificial intelligence' (AI) in healthcare. Using the theoretical perspective of Science and Technology Studies, I develop an approach based on the idea of a continuum between care, politics, ethics and technologies. [...]

This work explores resource recovery coupled to seawater desalination in small islands. As small islands depend on seawater desalination for water access, they make an excellent ground for exploring the trade-offs associated to resource recovery, like potential economic gains, energy use, and environmental impacts. Seeing environmental injustices : the mechanics, devices and assumptions of environmental sustainability indices and indicators
/
Requena-i-Mora, Marina (Universitat Jaume I) ;
Brockington, Dan (University of Sheffield)
At the heart of any colonization project, and therefore any move to de-colonize, are ways of seeing nature and society, that then allow particular ways of governing each. This is plainly visible in a number of tools that exist to measure progress towards (or regress from) environmental sustainability. [...] Overexploitation is a key driver of biodiversity loss but the relationship between the use and trade of species and conservation outcomes is not always straightforward. Accurately characterizing wildlife trade and understanding the impact it has on wildlife populations are therefore critical to evaluating the potential threat trade poses to species and informing local to international policy responses. Forest bathing (FB) has evidenced positive effects on individuals' mental health and well-being, but its benefits have mainly been studied in Asian biomes. The present study aimed to evaluate whether its benefits are also generalisable to other forests and biomes of the world, such as the Mediterranean. [...]

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a highly toxic chemical capable of causing severe health issues. Due to its environmental impact, it is critical to create effective methods for its monitoring. Inkjet printing technology has become an alternative for sensor fabrication because it is an economic, fast, and reproducible method for mass producing micro-electrodes. [...]
