This paper deals with the relationship between medieval and early modern visionary women and visual arts, focusing on two Castilian aspiring saints: María de Ajofrín and María Vela y Cueto. Considering the way in which these artistic images interact with female visionaries, we realize that not only Teresa of Avila was keen on visual arts, but also other saintly women who precede her or live at her times.
