Geologica Acta
Geologica Acta (ISSN 1695-6133 / 1696-5728 e-ISSN) is an institutional open access journal, international and a general profile of Earth Sciences. The journal welcomes articles from both conceptual and regional levels, with special emphasis on areas of the Mediterranean, South America and the Caribbean, but without considering contributions from any region. Also encouraged the publication of theme issues that give the results of projects and international scientific meetings.

24 p, 22.8 MB Sedimentology and isotope geochemistry of Early Pliocene shallow lacustrine dolomitic succession in the Baklan Basin, Southwestern Türkiye / Alçiçek, Hülya (Pamukkale University (Turquia)) ; Bouchal, Johannes M. (Universität Wien (Àustria)) ; Alçiçek, Mehmet Cihat (Pamukkale University (Turquia))
A multiproxy study of the Lower Pliocene (Zanclean) shallow lacustrine succession in the southwestern margin of the Baklan Basin (SW Anatolia, Turkey) provides new insights into the paleoclimatic, paleohydrologic, and paleovegetation evolution of an extensional basin located at the top of the western Taurides mountain range in the southeastern Mediterranean region. 12 p, 3.1 MB Comparative study of iron and trace element mobilization during Fe-Oxide bioreduction in mine tailings: a case study of Ensenada Chapaco (Chile) and Portman Bay (Spain) / Benaiges-Fernandez, Robert (Universitat de Barcelona) ; Palau Capdevila, Jordi (Universitat de Barcelona) ; Urmeneta, Jordi (Universitat de Barcelona) ; M. Soler, Josep (Institut de Diagnòstic Ambiental i Estudis de l'Aigua) ; Cama, Jordi (Institut de Diagnòstic Ambiental i Estudis de l'Aigua) ; Dold, Bernhard (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú)
Bioreduction of Fe-oxides in mine tailings deposited under marine conditions releases Fe and associated trace elements (e. g. , Ti, Ni, Cd, Pb), leading to contamination of the marine environment. Sea-tailings disposal (STD) along the northern coast of Chile (Ensenada Chapaco) and along the eastern coast of Spain (Portman Bay) results in an adverse impact on the environment. [...]

Continuous core recovery, core scanning and physical property logging for characterization and petrophysics analyses in the Chicxulub drilling projects are reviewed. We focus on the Yaxcopoil-1 borehole, one of the Chicxulub boreholes drilled in the terrace zone that sampled the post-impact carbonates, impact breccias and target Cretaceous carbonates. [...]

Marble, a high-pressure and high-temperature metamorphic rock primarily composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and calcium magnesium carbonate (CaMgCO3), has been utilized extensively by ancient civilizations for various architectural purposes globally. [...]

The precise determination of the tectonic deformation timing such as thrust emplacement has always been a challenge for understanding the evolution of fold-and-thrust belts. In the Catalan Coastal Ranges, this issue has traditionally been addressed through the mapping and the analysis of the syn-tectonic successions preserved in the SE margin of the Ebro Basin. [...]

Some aspects on the age and correlation of the upper Barremian-lower Aptian stratigraphic units of the NW Maestrat Basin were uncertain prior to this study, due to the differing lithostratigraphy of the marginal Oliete subbasin compared to the more depocentral Galve and Morella subbasins. [...]

The origin of the obliquity of the structures at the eastern end of the central South-Pyrenean salient is investigated by means of Paleomagnetism. Earlier paleomagnetic data in the area are poorly distributed and insufficient to describe in detail the amount and age of vertical axis-rotations affecting the region. [...]

15 p, 3.5 MB New spider crabs (Brachyura, Majoidea) from the early Eocene of Spain with a reassignment of the species "Periacanthus" tetracornis / Ferratges, Fernando Ari (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España)
Spider crabs (superfamily Majoidea Samouelle, 1819) represent a highly diverse group within Eubrachyura de Saint Laurent, 1980. This study re-examines the species "Periacanthus" tetracornis Ferratges, Ortega Fernández, Moreno and Maza, 2014 (Roda Formation, lower Eocene of Spain) which was previously consider as a member of Epialtidae MacLeay, 1838 and it is included as a new genus of majoid crabs, Eoactinotocarcinu n. The middle-upper Campanian Allueva Formation is located in the continental Montalbán subbasin (NE Spain) at the onset of the Alpine compression. This formation consists of alluvial terrigenous sediments, but it is locally dominated by carbonates and microbialites, which are the main focus of this study. [...]
