The Yamula Reservoir shores have yielded a series of vertebrate localities rich in diverse ungulates and carnivores which we refer to the Kayseri faunas, Türkiye. We report herein the geological context and hipparion horses excavated from fluvial and lake deposits Çevril, Taşhan, and Hırka sites. [...]

A group of avian species, mostly small passerines, allows us to reconstruct the landscape and general climate of an area of Fuerteventura prior to the arrival of the first humans. Many of the bird species are typical of forest environments and the edges of bodies of water, conditions incompatible with the current hot and arid climate. [...]

The Balearic shrew Nesiotites represents one of the most remarkable examples of insular evolution among Mediterranean mammals. While most previous studies have focused on its cranial anatomy, little attention has been paid to the postcranial skeleton and its evolutionary transformations through time. [...]

The northeast Iberian Peninsula preserves fossil localities that record the Miocene Climatic Optimum (MCO) and the Middle Miocene Climatic Transition (MMCT). Specifically, the Calatayud-Daroca Basin is the reference area for European Early-Middle Miocene mammal palaeocommunities (Aragonian type area), and includes the Artesilla locality (∼16. [...]

The palaeomerycid Ampelomeryx ginsburgi is one of the most iconic mammals found at the early Middle Miocene fossil site of els Casots (Catalonia). To date, several investigations have addressed its taxonomy and phylogeny, but many aspects of its paleobiology still remain to be studied. [...]

Stable carbon isotopes are fundamental for dietary and life-history reconstructions across living and fossil mammals. However, commonly used enamel-diet isotopic offsets are primarily derived from large herbivores and rarely account for breastfeeding in developing teeth. [...]

Oreopithecus bambolii, from the Tusco-Sardinian archipelago, is the latest-known European Miocene ape and a longstanding evolutionary enigma, owing to its mosaic morphology. Its systematic position has been intensely debated, resulting in a broad spectrum of hypotheses, ranging from a dryopithecine great ape to a nyanzapithecid stem hominoid, a giant hylobatid, or even a pliopithecoid.
