José Agustín Goytisolo

José Agustín Goytisolo Gay (Barcelona 1928-1999) studied law in Barcelona and Madrid, where he met important writers and intellectuals compromised against Franco dictatorship. Together with poets as: Jaime Gil de Biedma, Angel González, José Angel Valente, among others, Goytisolo belonged to the group known as the Generation of 50, which called for political compromise and a renewed attention to language and poetry.

Among the multiple activities he carried out, it is important to stand out his work as a translator, especially his translations of Catalan poetry into Spanish.

Since 27 February 2002, the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona has held a collection of documents of the poet. The legacy includes manuscripts, correspondence, photographic archives, audiovisual documents and printed texts.
