Grup de Recerca Malalties infeccioses-inflamatòries en animals de companyia (MIAC)
The MIAC group works on basic, translational and clinical research. The research group is focused on infectious and inflammatory diseases mainly in dogs, cats and horses in aspects of epidemiology, genetics, pathogenesis, immunology, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, prevention and One Health initiative. The most relevant zoonotic infectious diseases studied by MIAC group are canine, feline, equine leishmaniosis, west nile virus and human, canine and feline bartonellosis. However, the group also works in other zoonotic infectious diseases such as rickettsiosis, anaplasmosis and filariosis. In addition, the group also develops research in non-zoonotic infectious diseases such as canine and feline demodicosis, ehrlichiosis, babesiosis, hemoplasmosis, feline retroviral infections and canine pyoderma. The group is also actively working on canine and feline non-infectious inflammatory diseases such as sterile neutrophilic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, otitis externa and media, and diabetes mellitus among others. Furthermore, the group also does research in transfusion and regenerative medicine.

The general aim of the MIAC research group is to increase research of excellence, internationalization and increase knowledge transfer in different aspects of companion animal infectious and inflammatory diseases with a multidisciplinary approach and under the umbrella of One Health and comparative biomedicine concepts.
