The Collection of pragmatic sanctions and miscellaneous documents (15th - 18th centuries) is formed by approximately 1.130 documents, which about 110 are pragmatic sanctions, 325 Cédulas Reales and the rest are other types of normative and different documents. Basically, there are three kinds of documents:
- 1. Pragmatic sanctions (or premàtiques). The pragmatic sanctions are sovereign decrees on matters of public law with binding force similar to the law, but have their origins in the monarch’s exclusive will, without sharing its power with the Courts.
- 2. Legal policy documents. There are different types of regulations, apart from the pragmatic sanctions: Royal Charter, Royal Order, Order, Ordinance, Decree...
The "Royal Order" is one of the most strangest rules, as it consisted in granting a grace. Graces and Royal Decrees took this form, delivered by a higher court and subscribed by the king and his secretary. This appeared in Castilla under King Juan II, and lasted, with slight variations, until the time of the Bourbons.
- 3. Miscellaneous documents. We find different types of documents apart from the pragmatic sanctions and the regulatory requirements, such as: letters, releases, papal bulls, forms, etc.
