Debates prior to the reform of the Standing Orders could also be held in these languages, thanks to the favourable interpretation by the president of the house, who exercised her authority to substitute the Standing Orders. Seen from the perspective of more than a year of operation of this change, we understand that the result is positive but it is yet to be implemented in some aspects, such as being able to submit documents only in Catalan or in the other official languages different from Spanish. For now, deputies must submit documents in both languages. It is foreseen that before the end of 2024, deputies will be able to submit papers to Congress only in Catalan. In any case, this work notes that the use of Catalan in the Congress of Deputies is wider than in the Senate, with the inconsistency that this entails if we take into account that the latter house is defined as representing the territory. A comparison is also carried out with the European Parliament, where Catalan currently does not have official status, despite pressure from the Spanish Government, instigated by the Catalan political parties Esquerra Republicana and Junts per Catalunya.
