Temporary vacancy Research Assistant-part time


 

We’re looking for a Master’s or doctoral student to join as a Research Assistant-RA in the ERC-funded project, ‘SINGLE – Understanding the Demography and Stratification of Singlehood in Europe’ in the Centre d’Estudis Demogràfics-CED. SINGLE is a comparative project that examines the population and social dynamics of singlehood across Europe—both within and between countries. PI: Ariane Ophir.  CALL.

Course Sources of Inequality
In this course, you will explore the origins and persistence of economic inequality and how it shapes life chances. We will review key explanations, starting with the impact of family background and individual factors like education and employment. The course also examines how state policies, such as taxes and welfare programs, can either reduce or widen inequality. More info

Population Aging and Intergenerational Relationships
In this course, you will explore the challenges and opportunities of population
aging and its impact on the distribution of resources and public policy. You will
learn about the health and well-being of older adults, economic security, social
protection and care. The course emphasizes that aging affects all age groups and examines how public policies can promote fair resource distribution between younger and older generations. More info

Open call for applications to participate in the 9th edition of the Barcelona Summer School of Demography-BSSD


 

This one-month summer program, hosted by the Centre for Demographic Studies of Barcelona, is dedicated to the comprehensive exploration of statistical and spatial analysis, as well as data visualization in demography using R. The school attracts master, PhD students and researchers from different fields from all around the world. Over the course of eight editions of the BSSD, we have had the privilege of welcoming and training over 100 students hailing from 4 continents and representing 26 diverse countries.

ECSR Network Workshop “Understanding Kin Relations"


 
Cologne University, Alemanya, 2-3.03.2026

The ECSR Network Workshop: Understanding Kin Relations, organized by Beyda Çineli (CED & UAB), Lisa Jessee (University of Cologne), and Julia Sauter (University of Lausanne), will take place in Cologne on 2–3 March 2026.

The workshop brings together researchers from 13 institutions across 9 countries, reflecting a strong international and interdisciplinary exchange on kinship, social networks, and inequalities across the life course.

The event will host two keynote speakers: Thomas Leopold (University of Cologne), “KINMATRIX: Past, Present, and Future,” and Marco Tosi (University of Padua), “KinMatters: Exploring the Impact of Kinship Networks on Health and Social Inequalities.”

Federica Becca from the Centre for Demographic Studies Barcelona (CED) will also participate as a presenter.

Call for Papers: Workshop From Matrimonial Ads to Dating Apps: Unraveling the Partnering Market

This call for papers invites scholars from all disciplines to explore how partnering markets operate across diverse contexts and the far-reaching consequences of these dynamics, including their impact on relationship stability, social mobility, health, and family structures.

Scholars are invited to participate in the workshop by submitting a paper proposal aligned with the workshop’s objectives. Proposals should consist of a title and an abstract of 300–350 words and must be submitted by 15 April 2026 via email to:

El congrés tindrà lloc els dies 2 i 3 de desembre de 2026 a El Born. Museu d’Història de Barcelona. Les persones investigadores interessades en participar-hi poden enviar, individualment o en equip, una proposta de comunicació i/o de pòster. Per a les propostes de comunicació, es prega indicar si es poden adaptar a un format pòster en cas que el programa ho requereixi. Les propostes s’han de trametre per correu electrònic a la secretaria del congrés. Han d’incloure: títol, autor, vinculació acadèmica, dades de contacte i resum d’uns 2.000 caràcters amb espais, on es defineixin l’abast i els objectius de la recerca. El període de recepció és fins al 19 de març de 2026. El Comitè Científic (Joana M. Pujadas en forma part) examinarà les propostes i donarà una resposta a cada proponent abans del 30 d’abril de 2026.
