Pero mientras que en el salterio el espacio intercolumnario está vacío, en el Cosmas se distribuyeron doce cuadrados en torno a uno mayor donde se alojan las doce tribus. Este autor cree que la relación con los beatos se canalizaría a través de otros Octateucos (Smyrna, A-1, f. 158 y Vat. gr. 746, f. 331). Sin embargo, en ellos las imágenes de la travesía por el desierto parece más bien una distribución estratégica en torno al tabernáculo durante la marcha. Entiendo que, al margen de las diferencias compositivas, las implicaciones dinámicas de la peregrinación judía se oponen al sentido estático de la Jerusalén Nueva. En cambio, el esquema del Cosmas se registra con escasas variantes en el Hortus Deliciarum, A. CARATZAS (ed.). Notas de A. STRAUB y G. KELLER, New Rochelle, 1977, lam. XV bis: «El tabernáculo y los muebles para el sacrificio», f. 46. KÜHNEL da un paso más al intentar relacionar tabernáculo-templo-Jerusalén Celeste cuando introduce en su discurso el Codex grandior de Casiodoro. Añade que las concomitancias textuales entre las descripciones de Ezequiel y de Juan ya fueron señaladas por Orígenes a fin de reafirmar la autenticidad del Antiguo Testamento. Lo cierto, en cambio, es que Orígenes no vincula ambas imágenes sino que las enumera sucesivamente. En cualquier caso, se trata de un esquema compositivo, existente desde el siglo IV, que ha sobrevivido a lo largo de los siglos incorporándose a distintas iconografías.
