Resum:	La correspondència escrita per l'actriu i directora d'escena Margarida Xirgu (1888-1969), tant la familiar o amical com l'estrictament professional, permet d'aprofundir en la seva vida pública i privada i, especialment, en la xarxa de coneixences i relacions al llarg d'una àmplia trajectòria consagrada en cos i ànima al teatre. A partir d'aquesta documentació epistolar, d'un gran valor biogràfic, històric i documental, el present article se centra, sobretot, en l'anàlisi de dos aspectes. D'una banda, la progressiva emergència d'un jo en les cartes xirguanes, en les quals els temes de l'envelliment i del retorn a la pàtria esdevenen leitmotivs obsessius. De l'altra, l'omnipresència del teatre en les missives, la qual no tan sols confirma la dedicació absorbent als escenaris, sinó que també aporta evidències noves sobre la imatge que s'autoconstruïa com a professional i sobre els seus gustos artístics i afinitats estètiques. No cal dir que l'epistolari de Xirgu revela, de pròpia mà, tot un caràcter i unes preocupacions vitals concretes que contribueixen a conèixer molt millor la biografia de l'actriu catalana.
Resum:	The correspondence written by Catalan actress and stage director Margarida Xirgu (1888-1969), set both within the spheres of family and friends, allows the reader to go further into her private and public life, and particularly into the net of acquaintances and relationships woven throughout a wide career unconditionally dedicated to the theater. On the basis of this epistolary papers, which possess a great biographical, historical and documentary value, this essay is mainly focused on the analysis of two aspects. On the one hand, the progressive emergence of a self in Xirgu's letters, in which the topics of aging and return to the homeland become two obsessive leitmotivs; on the other hand, the omnipresence of theater in the letters, which not only does it confirm her time-consuming dedication to the stage, it also provides new evidence about the image she was building herself as a professional and her artistic tastes and aesthetic affinities. It goes without saying that Xirgu's collected letters reveal, in her own hand, quite a character and some vital concerns that contribute to a better knowledge of the biography of this Catalan actress.
