Resumen: The ATSS is a voluntary group of Social Science teachers who have joined together to further the interests of Social Science teaching in secondary schools, Colleges and Teacher Training courses in Higher Education. Composed mainly of Sociologists, the ATSS also includes teachers of Psychology, Politics and Economics amongst its members. The Association also has close links with similar organisations such as the British Sociological Association, the Association of Teachers of Psychology , the the Political Education Forum, the Association for Physical Education and Economics and Business Education Association. The aim of the Association is to encourage and promote the teaching of the Social Sciences in Primary, Secondary, Further and Higher Education. The Association therefore provides opportunities for those teaching in the Social Sciences to develop and share ideas and strategies for the promotion and delivery of the teaching of the Social Sciences. To this end, one on the main activities of the ATSS is the dissemination of information relating to teaching materials and teaching methods. The Association is also active in promoting the interests of Social Science teachers to examination boards, academic bodies, governmental and political agencies and the wider public. The ATSS is a registered charity (Registration No. 1072522) and exists to achieve the aims of the charity. It is managed by an Executive Committee of thirty-one elected members and the current President of the Association is Tony Lawson, Senior Lecturer in Social Science at the University of Leicester. Members of the Association can be found in every sector of education, but the majority are teachers of Advanced Level Sociology. Members are encouraged to be active in the running of the Association, either nationally or through local activities.
