In virtù della loro compattezza come «sottoinsieme» all'interno del capolavoro petrarchesco, le «Canzoni degli occhi» (Rvf, 71-73) costituiscono uno specimen ideale per valutare l'atteggiamento dei commentatori cinquecenteschi delle «rime sparse». Dall'edizione senza note del Bembo (1501) al commento di Vellutello (1525), e ancora dal lavoro di Andrea Gesualdo (1533) sino al grande commento pubblicato postumo del Castelvetro (1582) con il quale in più di un senso si chiude il secolo, si sono contrapposti in Italia due atteggiamenti interpretativi. Da un lato si collocano quelli che come Vellutello o Castelvetro rappresentano i campioni della explication du texte, ossia la critica del «ciò è» che mira a rendere comprensibile la lettera senza sovraccaricarla di significati sapienziali o filosofici; dall'altra parte si sistema invece la critica del «peroché», fatta propria da chi, in particolare gli accoliti dell'Accademia fiorentina (da Varchi a de' Vieri), cercava nell'opera petrarchesca la fonte di un sapere enciclopedico e semmai esemplare anche dal punto di vista spirituale. Lo studio ripercorre questa storia cinquecentesca attraversando sia i commenti sia le lezioni dedicate a singoli componimenti del Canzoniere e mostrando il passaggio dalla identificazione tra «spirito» poetico e «corpo» tipografico tipica del primo Cinquecento alla tendenza a separare tra «spirito» filosofico e «lettera» poetica presente nella seconda metà del secolo XVI. |

In virtue of their consistency as «subsets» within the Petrarch masterpiece, the «Canzoni degli occhi» («Songs of the eyes») (Rvf, 71-73) are a perfect specimen for appraising the attitude of 5th Century annotators towards «scattered rhymes». Two interpretative, opposing attitudes have existed in Italy, which are evident in various writings, from the obscure work of Bembo (1501) to the comments of Vellutello (1525), and from the work of Andrea Gesualdo (1533) up to the great posthumous commentary of Castelvetro (1582), which brought an ambiguous end to the century. On the one hand, there is the viewpoint of Vellutello or Castlevetro, who represent the protectors of the explication du texte, or rather the critic of the ciò è («that is»), which seeks to explain the letter without overstating knowledgeable or philosophical meanings; on the other hand, is the criticism of peroché, through which acolytes of the Florentine Academy (from Varchi to de' Vieri) in particular, have searched the patriarchal work for the source of encyclopaedic knowledge and, perhaps, exemplars even from a spiritual point of view. The study retraces this 16th Century history, passing through both comments and readings regarding individual compositions from the Canzoniere («Song Book») as well as highlighting the process of identification between the poetic «spirit» and typographic «body» typical of the first five centuries. The study also addresses the tendency to separate between philosophical «spirit» and poetic «letter», present in the second half of the 16th Century. |
