Esta tesis aborda el análisis comparativo de las manifestaciones lingüísticas de la argumentación y de la cortesía en las columnas periodísticas. El objetivo principal es observar mediante el análisis discursivo cuáles son los mecanismos lingüísticos y pragmáticos de la argumentación y de cortesía usados por los autores (un catálogo cerrado de columnistas) para presentar y defender su opinión con el fin de persuadir al lector. Para este análisis se han escogido columnas firmadas, publicadas en dos periódicos de orientación distinta: El País y ABC. Los autores de las columnas elegidas de El País son Carlos Boyero y Maruja Torres y de ABC, Antonio Burgos e Ignacio Camacho. Por tanto, la pregunta esencial de esta tesis es: ¿Las formas o estrategias de opinión, de argumentación y de cortesía dependen de la ideología de cada medio (que las condiciona), o dependen, más bien, del estilo personal de cada autor? El análisis se ha centrado en tres aspectos. Primero se han analizado los recursos y exponentes propios de la argumentación que se ponen de manifiesto en las columnas. Dado que la relación argumentativa se define a partir de las nociones de orientación argumentativa y fuerza argumentativa, por un lado se han analizado los mecanismos que marcan la orientación argumentativa, la coorientación y la antiorientación, y, por otro, los mecanismos que marcan la fuerza argumentativa, que abarcan los conceptos de intensificación y atenuación argumentativa. En segundo lugar, se han analizado los recursos lingüísticos relacionados con el carácter dialógico de la argumentación: los mecanismos relacionados con la figura del emisor y la del receptor. Por un lado, se ha analizado cómo se manifiesta la visión personal de la figura del emisor, los columnistas en nuestro caso, las manifestaciones de polifonía en su discurso y el uso de las estructuras impersonales, que sirven para la desautorización y despersonalización del discurso. Por otro lado, nos ocuparemos de la figura del receptor y los mecanismos que utilizan los columnistas para hacer referencia a él en sus columnas. Y, por último, hemos intentado ver cómo se manifiesta en las diferentes fuentes la relación entre la argumentación y la cortesía y estudiar las manifestaciones de cortesía verbal al expresar diferentes puntos de vista y diferentes actitudes con referencia a lo manifestado. El análisis llevado a cabo intenta contribuir a los estudios comparativos de Análisis de Discurso en general y, en particular, acercarse a los estudios de la Literacidad Crítica con el fin de desarrollar la Competencia Receptiva Crítica en la enseñanza de E/LE de acuerdo con la propuesta de MCERL (2001) que plantea la interpretación crítica de textos en los niveles B2/C de dominio de una lengua. |

This thesis focuses on a comparative analysis of linguistic manifestations of argumentation and politeness in expressing different points of view in newspaper columns. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to reveal argumentative and politeness structures and strategies used by certain columnists in their discourse to present their opinions, defend their statements and, ultimately, persuade the reader. For proving this proposal, columns published in two Spanish newspapers with different political orientation: progressive, El País (Carlos Boyero and Maruja Torres), and conservative, ABC (Antonio Burgos and Ignacio Camacho) were analyzed. Therefore, the essential question is whether the argumentation and politeness strategies and structures used by columnists depend on the ideology of each publication (which conditions them), or rather on the personal style of each author. The analysis focused on three aspects. The first aspect regarding argumentation focuses, on the one hand, on the notion of arguments' orientation, whether they are cooriented and lead to the expected conclusions or antioriented and lead to opposite conclusions; and, on the other hand, on the strength of the arguments, focusing primarily on two particular mechanisms: intensification and attenuation. The second aspect has to do with the intention of the speaker to influence the reader and the dialogical character of argumentation. Therefore, as for the columnist, the focus is on the expressions of the personal view, polyphony (the use of different voices), and the use of impersonal structures for depersonalization of the discourse. And as for the reader, the use of pronominal forms as a way of addressing the reader (T - V distinction) and other types of reference to the reader that make columns more dialogical and interactive. Finally, the third aspect focuses on manifestations of linguistic politeness in expressing different points of view and attitudes and the relation between argumentation and politeness since previous studies have shown that, on the one hand, argumentation is a way of being polite because it justifies communicative goals and is a way of collaborating with the speaker, and, on the other hand, politeness can be considered as a tool for argumentation. The analysis carried out aims to make contribution to Discourse Analysis studies in general and, in particular, to approach Critical Literacy studies in order to enhance critical literacy competence in teaching Spanish as a FL to advanced level students according to the CEFR (2001) which suggests the critical interpretation of texts in levels B2/C. |
