In two slightly different ways, iconicity and isomorphism exemplify the notion of structural similarity, which is also the traditional definition of analogy. A new generalisation has been made when a new structural similarity has been either discovered or invented. In today's cognitive linguistics, analogy as the source of generalisations has been renamed either "schema" (Langacker) or "construction" (Goldberg). |
