En aquest article, s'hi ofereix una nova interpretació d'una de les confraries d'ofici més importants de la Barcelona medieval. La recuperació d'informació, fins ara inèdita, ha permès traçar els eixos bàsics de l'entitat a nivell social, religiós i artístic. Cal destacar que l'evolució d'aquesta associació, lligada estretament al desenvolupament de la ciutat, va propiciar la configuració de dos perfils de confrares: un primer, que recull l'esperit cristià dels creadors de la confraria, i un darrer, que es va consolidar a principis del segle xv, vinculat al desig d'augmentar i consolidar el marge d'actuació d'aquesta organització dins el perímetre de poder reservat als artesans. A través de la documentació conservada, es pot apreciar com, en aquest darrer període, la confraria de sant Marc va invertir molts esforços a millorar el seu patrimoni, especialment en el marc de la nova catedral gòtica, i com l'art va esdevenir l'element clau a l'hora de projectar una imatge pública de col·lectiu modèlic en clau cristiana, darrere de la qual s'amagaven uns objectius i unes dinàmiques que seguien uns altres camins. |

In this article we offer a new interpretation of one of the most important trade brotherhoods in medieval Barcelona. The information retrieved, until now previously unknown, has allowed us to outline the core of the entity, socially, religiously and artistically. It is imperative to point out that the evolution of this association, related closely to the city's development, led to the configuration of two types of confrères: one, which collects the Christian spirit of the brotherhood creators, and the other, which was consolidated at the beginning of the 15th century, linked to the hope of increasing and consolidating the performance margin of this organization within the perimeter of power reserved to the craftsmen. Through the kept documentation we can appreciate how in this last period the brotherhood of Saint Mark invested a lot of effort to improve its heritage, especially within the context of the new Gothic cathedral, and how art became the key element when projecting a public image of a model group based upon Christianity, behind which were hidden some objectives and dynamics that were following other paths. |
