Resum:	Este artículo da cuenta del proceso de diseño, de los resultados, así como los propósitos de la investigación El tratamiento del VIH/sida en los medios de comunicación escritos españoles: ABC, El Mundo, El País, El Periódico y La Vanguardia. Esta investigación, que se ciñe al análisis de contenido y que comenzó en 2005, analiza por oleadas cómo tratan los medios impresos españoles el VIH/sida y es un encargo del Observatorio Derechos Humanos y VIH/SIDA-Red2002 al Observatorio de Comunicación y Salud del Instituto de la Comunicación de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona.
Resum:	This study is linked to content analysis which began in 2005, and discusses waves in the treatment of HIV/AIDS by Spanish print media. It has been commissioned by the Observatorio Derechos Humanos y VIH/SIDA-Red2002 and has been conducted by Observatorio de Comunicación y Salud of InCom-UAB. In the first part of the paper we discuss how the study was designed, an open process that results from working cooperatively with the commissioner, Red2002, and that adapts to purposes that change as the investigation and its application advance. The second part of the text focuses on two aspects, firstly, a brief review of the investigations carried out in Spain about how the media have dealt with HIV/AIDS, and, secondly, how this investigation differs from previous ones: its thoroughness and its objective for intervention. The third section is dedicated to providing a summary of the results obtained by the first two waves of research and to state the trends that seem to arise after analyzing the third wave. The article ends by underlining the fact that the change in the way that HIV/AIDS is dealt with in the media may be the result of cooperative work among researchers, NGOs and journalists specialized in health.
