El exilio del lenguaje : identidades e inmigración

Resum:	El presente trabajo analiza la relación entre el idioma y las identidades en la experiencia inmigratoria. Propone un marco teórico que permite reinterpretar en forma positiva las dificultades del inmigrante para adquirir el idioma de inmigración, sugiriendo que actúan como mecanismos que aseguran la continuidad de las identidades. Propone la existencia de un contrato implícito entre nativos e inmigrantes, según el cual el inmigrante mantendrá elementos lingüísticos que lo identifiquen claramente como extranjero, permitiendo al nativo hacer uso de sus "derechos de antigüedad" sobre el territorio y al inmigrante, contrarrestar la amenaza identitaria que implicaría lograr una competencia lingüística nativa. Finalmente, se analiza el concepto de "competencia lingüística imaginaria" como mecanismo regulador de la negociación entre las diferentes identidades nacionales en la inmigración.
Resum:	The paper analyzes the relationship between language and identities in immigration. It offers a theoretical framework that positively reinterprets the immigrants diffculties in acquiring the new language, suggesting that they act as mechanisms that ensure the maintenance of identity. The author suggests that an "implicit contract" exists between immigrants and natives, according to which natives will remain strangers forever, allowing the native to keep the special rights derived from his earlier belonging to the country, and the immigrant to soften the threat that a native profciency would represent for his previous identity. Finally, the concept of "imagined profciency" is discussed, as a linguistic reflection of the negotiation between national sub-identities.
