Este artículo analiza la política de memoria de las emisoras de radio en Miami en los años sesenta y setenta. Estos programas de radio estuvieron dominados por las narrativas de los primeros exiliados que llegaron a Estados Unidos después de la revolución cubana. En estos relatos la imagen de Cuba fue construida como la de un paraíso perdido. Se excluyeron las opiniones críticas de la Cuba pre-revolucionaria y las posibles consecuencias positivas de la revolución cubana. Este discurso histórico contrasta con las ideas y el trabajo de memoria de los jóvenes cubano-americanos en los años 2000. |

This article analyses the memory politics of Spanish-language radio stations in Miami in the 1960s and 1970s. That radio programmes of that era were dominated by the narratives of frst Cuban migrants arriving in the US after the Cuban revolution. In these, Cuba was constructed as a paradise lost. Critical views of pre-revolutionary Cuba and potential positive consequences of the Cuban revolution were excluded. This historic discourse is contrasted by ideas and the memory work of young Cuban Americans in the 2000s. Finally, the article refects upon the workings of intergenerational memory work and the role of journalism and digital media in remembering in different eras. |
